De La Soul “The Package (omniosi remix)”
Music Production
Process
Music programmed, mixed, and mastered in Apple Logic Pro.
No disrespect to Pete Rock, but I wanted to try a version of the new De La Soul song without such a recognizable sample.
I was inspired by De La’s approach to their last album where they sampled from original jam sessions from their own band. I thought about how I would play and edit the sample source song. I’m not at the level of the original players, but I tried to convey a feeling.
The Step Splitter in Logic Pro is amazing! Bought the single, there was no option for an acapella or instrumental. So I made my own. And then mixed the vocals with my own production.

I became a bit obsessed with this behind-the-scenes video of Large Professor and Yaasin Bey creating the song "Condition of Terms" (I might have been at the show at the end of the video!). Large Professor is a master of craft, and I wanted to see if I could recreate the music.
